about trpanj

A hidden jewel with a long history and rich cultural heritage, a home of fishermen and seamen, and a landscape featuring numerous vineyards and centuries-old olive orchards – is now becoming a true Mediterranean paradise with countless cobble and sandy beaches and numerous hidden coves that are waiting for you!
Discover the wild side of Pelješac, return to the intact nature and take the best it has to offer. Visit the small restaurants owned by fishermen who prepare what they catch on their own and serve it with olive oil and the finest wine from Pelješac.
Take a stroll through the walkway by the sea, surrounded by pine trees on one side and the crystal clear sea on the other.
If you are looking to truly return to the nature, you can take the Herbs Route and the Olive Oil Route, where you will experience the wonderful scents of sage, heather, rosemary and immortelle.
For those among you who are truly adventurous, we recommend the Viter, Lozica, Paškalov put and Miloševica mountain trails.
Visit Blace, a lagoon in which you can find mud with healing properties, relax, recharge your batteries and restore your health. Take a deep breath of fresh air, dive into the turquoise sea, enjoy our home-made food and visit us again!

Trpanj’s county along with everything previously mentioned, offers beatiful, mainly gravel beaches, that are visited even by tourists from other tourist places on the peninsula.

On every beach you can can linger on the sun or in the shade of pine tres, palm-trees, tamarisks and other mediterranean plants.

Due to its favourable geographic position it has mild climate during whole year, when a hot, moderate, summer, afternoons sea breze (mistral) freshes you.

Pozora
Immediately in front of hotel ‘Faraon’ there is a gravel beach Pozora. As it has a shallow and natural shade, it is appropriate for children. There you can rent various equipment or freshen in the bar.

Luka
Luka is on the east entrance of Trpanj, in the same bay. It also has a gravel beach with natural shade, shallow and a bar to freshen up.

Divna
Divna is located 10 km. from Trpanj in the direction of Duba. This beach is sandy to gravel, and its beauty and contrast of blue sea and green nature is already described in it’s name meaning gorgeous. The gravel makes this beach appropriate for children too. Right next to the beach there is a camp with a beach bar.

Duba
One more destination that is worth of visiting is this small fishery village, 13 km. from Trpanj, with a beatiful gravel beach in the harbour. This beach is also suitable for children, and there is a beach bar as well.

Jezero
Jezero is a lagoon 1 km. from the village Duba with a gravel/sandy beach. As it is not accessible from the land, this is a perfect spot to experience true nature if going by boat.

The beauty of this beach is even more emphasized by the lake surrounding the beach from the land and with a small brook passing the white gravel and pouring into the sea.

Fabulous place to stay. Swimming right at the front door. Fresh produce 3 min walk into Trpanj ( try the sea bass, you won’t regret it. The owners are also vintners and produce some of the best red wine in the district ( ask for the Dignac, full bodied and fabulous)

View, wine and food, Jane

The apartment itself was on the top (third) floor of a villa. The views across the water to the Croatian mainland were beautiful, as were those to the harbour and town of Trpanj itself. The villa is set back into the hillside and surrounded by greenery and flora. A short hop across the road (very quiet, no concerns about traffic here) takes you to the bathing platform, and the town is a two-minute walk at most.

Upon arrival, we were greeted by the owner, who exclaimed that we were probably the youngest people she’d ever had stay with her (we weren’t sure how to take this but I’m sure there was no malice intended!). She’d left us a welcome basket containing bread, cheese, wine, etc. which was basic but nice to have anyway and kept us going until we could find a supermarket.

The decor of the apartment itself was basic but clean and tidy, and much roomier than we’d expected. There were two balconies – one off the kitchen/dining area, and another off our bedroom, which meant we could catch a bit of sun at different times of the day. We didn’t really see much of the owner apart from when she was sitting on the terrace on the lower floor of the villa (which you have to pass to get out) – she always seemed pleasant and friendly however and we were made to feel very welcome. There was a BBQ on the lower terrace, which I believe we were welcome to use, although we never got around to it as we ate in the little restaurants in town most nights.

Trpanj is very much a quiet town, not suited to anyone after a busy nightlife, but this suited us down to the ground. There are a couple of supermarkets, and a handful of tavernas and bars which are low key but fantastic for fresh fish, brought in every day via the little harbour. It’s a pleasant drive up the peninsula through similarly small villages towards the mainland – it’s roughly 1h 45m to Dubrovnic this direction. Further up the peninsula, you can catch a ferry over to Korcula and other little islands which make for nice day trips. Most of the peninsula seemed to be dedicated to agriculture and in particular vineyards – some of which are open to the public which we took advantage of.

I’d recommend Maestral Villa to anyone looking for a peaceful break away from the hustle and bustle, but with plenty of options for day trips.

Clean apartment, beautiful views, friendly owners., Amy

We stayed at the smaller of the 2 apartments within the Maestral Villa for the first 2 weeks in October 2011, and can’t recommend it enough. It is only a 2.5 hour drive away from Dubrovnik airport, in a beautiful coastal location on the northern side of the Peljesac peninsula. The apartment makes up one half of the top floor of the villa, which is privately owned by a Dubrovnik resident, who welcomed us on our first day before leaving us to it entirely – perfect. We chose the smaller 1 bed apartment as the bedroom balcony had views over the coast, and also caught the sunrise perfectly. The apartment was clean and well furnished, and we were made to feel really welcome, with a bottle of wine and some essentials having been thoughtfully left for us. Trpanj is quiet and peaceful and at the time we were there, was about to close for the end of the tourise season, so some of the bars and restaurants weren’t open, but it was only a 20 minute (and beautiful) drive to Orebic, the largest town on the peninsula. We used our apartment as a base and explored the peninsula as well as the mainline. The clear waters and lovely mountainous landscapes, as well as fabulous food, made the holiday perfect for us – we would go back in an instant.

Hidden gem, Smith
